I’m Paul Rogers — a wedding photographer based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, who uses 20 years of news photojournalism to tell wedding stories with honesty and style. My work is documentary in spirit: I don’t stage or pose your day. Instead I look for the real, unguarded moments that make a wedding feel like your wedding when you return to the pictures years from now. My background at The Times taught me to anticipate action, photograph reaction, and stay calm under pressure. I’ve photographed conflicts from Kosovo to Afghanistan, worked undercover in North Korea and even had seconds to make a portrait of the President of Colombia. All of that experience feeds into the way I approach weddings — quietly, confidently and with an eye for narrative. That’s why couples who want natural, emotive images choose me: they want photos that feel alive, not posed. On the day I work discreetly to blend in with your guests. I look for the little interactions, the funny asides, the tears in the front row and the laughter on the dance floor. One technique I use a lot is what I call “action and reaction” — by capturing both the event and the responses around it you get a fuller, more cinematic story of the day. If your wedding needs it, I can also add a second experienced documentary photographer so we capture more angles without disrupting the flow of the celebration. I also offer a Wedding Photofilm: professional audio recording of the ceremony and speeches, edited together with the still images I create.
