Hartlepool wedding photographer John Runciman specialises in relaxed, documentary-led wedding photos across the North East. Expect natural moments, friendly pre-wedding meetings and bespoke Italian albums.
I’m John Runciman, the photographer behind Grange Photography, based in Hartlepool and working across the North East. For almost 30 years I’ve made it my mission to capture weddings in a way that feels natural, relaxed and true to the day. I love the whole wedding experience — the nerves, the laughter, the quiet glances — and my aim is to preserve those moments so you can relive them for years to come. My approach is documentary-led with a warm, informal touch. I photograph your day as it unfolds, looking for the small, honest moments of emotion and fun while still taking the time for a few timeless group and couple portraits. I ask couples to keep family group lists sensible so we can avoid long delays and get back to capturing the atmosphere and romance of the celebration. Working as an unobtrusive presence during ceremonies and receptions means guests act naturally and real moments are revealed. I’m happy to meet in person if you’re local, and for couples further afield I offer phone, Skype or FaceTime consultations — getting to know each other before the big day helps everyone feel comfortable and ensures the photography reflects your plans and personality. Over the years I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings at many of the North East’s finest venues, including Hardwick Hall, Durham Castle, Rockliffe Hall and Headlam Hall. I take pride in the quality of the final product as well as the images themselves: my wedding albums are handcrafted Graphi‑Studio albums from Italy, chosen because they present your day with real care and longevity. While wedding photography is my core focus, I also shoot portraits and events across the region, bringing the same friendly, professional approach to each assignment. If you’d like a pre-wedding shoot to get used to being photographed, I can include that as part of the planning — it’s a great way to relax on the day and see how I work. If you value experienced, personal and heartfelt wedding photography in Hartlepool and the North East, let’s talk. I’ll listen to your plans, explain how I work, and help create a bespoke approach that captures the true spirit of your wedding day.
