Hello — I’m Rhys Baker, a Darlington-based wedding photographer specialising in creative documentary wedding photography for couples across the North East and beyond. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2007 and my work is grounded in a fine art and documentary background (MA in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism, degree in Fine Art). I’m fully DBS-checked and insured, and I bring a calm, observant presence to every wedding I cover. Why choose me? I’m a storyteller at heart. My approach is simple and truthful: an unobtrusive, candid style that blends in with the action rather than directing it. I don’t rely on gimmicks, heavy effects or elaborate lighting rigs — I aim to show how it felt to be there, creating images that resonate years from now. What makes my work different is a combination of experience, training and curiosity. My teaching background and documentary training mean I listen, watch and wait for the decisive moments that reveal personality and emotion. I’m happy to fly a drone when the location and regulations allow, and I work with a light, respectful footprint so people can be themselves. How I work with couples is straightforward and friendly. Before the big day I’ll get to know you — whether in person, over a video call or via a short questionnaire — so I understand the story you want preserved. I offer pre-wedding/engagement shoots to help you feel relaxed in front of the camera and to create images you can use in invitations or displays. On the day I aim to be present but unobtrusive, capturing ceremony, candid reactions, portraits when needed and the atmosphere of your celebration. After the wedding you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can view and download your final edits. I love photographing real moments — the laughter, the tears, the small gestures that mean everything. Based in Darlington, I photograph weddings across North Yorkshire, County Durham, Teesside, Tyneside and further afield.
